Scott Reconnects with Radio

During October of 2004, Scott traveled all over the United States promoting Relearn Love and the Creed Greatest Hits album in a radio promo tour. Of course the PBF crew got busy contacting stations to source the much sought-after audio bytes. The response was overwhelming. These are some of the DJ comments received by our members:

”We are very excited about the Scott Stapp interview.”
– Z104
“Scott… was a great person to talk with.”
– Bill West, KLSY 92.5
“He was super nice!” – Kelly, Mix 98.5
“Scott was great!” – Andy Savage, KROCK

Big thanks go out to Leonard Barokas at Star 101.5 and the wonderful people at BUZZ 105.1 for sending us audio files and photos from their sessions with Scott.

Very Nice Package

On October 20, while in Baltimore doing an interview/ performance for MIX 106.5, Scott paid a visit to a recording studio called Nice Package. Here's what they had to say:

The Scott Stapp performance was a huge success. He came through Nice Package for an interview with Mix 106.5 and Mix contest winners. Scott played a few songs with accoustic guitar accompaniment...which sounded great. He was a pleasure to work with, sticking around to chat, sign autographs and take pictures.

Photo caption: Nice Package with Scott Stapp. He stopped by the Package to do a couple of songs. Man, was he a nice guy. Incredible live performance as well. An all around great experience.

Unfortunately, due to copyright issues, the performance never aired; however, you can now listen to it here, courtesy of 106.5's Jojo Girard!

Bladerunner Exclusive

In August 2004, while filming the video for Relearn Love, Scott called in to OKC radio station KATT to talk to the always funny Bladerunner about the single and life as a solo artist. The interview was a blast and the fans made sure to drop the DJ a note thanking him. Little did we know how cool Bladerunner really was – he replied to every mail and even offered to send the full, unedited interview exclusively to PBF. Here are a couple of his comments:

“I'm glad to see a group of people who are so passionate about an artist and his music.”
“I was surprised that Scott seemed so comfortable, some people don't get the weird stuff I do... either they don't get it, or it makes them mad. Just goes to show that Scott really is a good natured person.”
“It was alot of fun.”

What’s more, Bladerunner gave several shout-outs to passionbreedsfollowers.com on the air! Rock on man!

2004 Grammys: Scott Sings Otis, Gives Props to Beyoncé

Who knew that Tonight Show girls Chris & Kim were Scott Stapp fans? In their coverage of the 2004 Grammys, they got cozy with Scott and even got him to sing a part of Otis Redding's ‘These Arms of Mine’. You can watch the video clip right here.

Later that evening, Scott dropped by backstage. MTV reports: As the night began to wind down, Beyoncé was stopped by Creed's Scott Stapp. “Congratulations,” he said, giving the Houston native props on the night. “You look so beautiful.” The two later took pictures and hugged.

5 Billion Reasons to Rock

Who says celebrities forget their friends? On February 20 2004 Scott was at the Hard Rock Live to catch his buddies, 5 Billion Dead, in concert. Found on their website: "Also a horns up to Scott Stapp from Creed for making it out."

On the Tour Bus with Scott

Taken from the online Scrapbook of 99.5 KISS radio DJ Kevin:

Here's me and the Mrs. with Creed. They seemed pretty open and gave all KISS winners some good quality of time. Sometime bands of their magnitude will simply not be accommodating with pictures and autographs due to the volume of people who are trying to get a piece of them. These encounters can often end up with disappointment since it's hard to satisfy everybody's numerous requests. After the show I was summoned to Scott Stapp's bus for a private audience. Turns out he just wanted to talk about the business and my opinion of Creed's place in the current Rock radio landscape. If you've ever dreamed of such a moment let me clear one thing up...it's not what it's cracked up to be! Scott simply wouldn't shut up. At about 90-minutes into the conversation I wanted food, not more philosophical debate. Angie was practically snoozing in her seat.

Actually I say he wouldn't shut up with a smile. It was nice to find out the stories I had heard about Scott being a prima-donna were simply not true. He talked glowingly about his son, sincerely about how he wishes he could give even more back to their fans, and openly about the band's desire to be taken seriously as a Rock band (they are what we in the Rock Radio bizz call "cross-over superstars" which sometimes isn't necessarily a flattering term.) In retrospect, this is one conversation I wish I could have had over the dinner table. Scott's a pretty real guy, and that's saying a lot considering how big of a star and sex symbol he really has become.

Laying Down the Law

In October 2001, Creed band members were made Honorary Orange County Deputy Sheriffs. Don't believe it? We've got the CreedINK article and the video.

Getting Inked

Scott got his first tattoo in 1998, a cross on his right arm with a ‘Creed’ banner above. Later he had the red tips of the cross filled in with black. In 2001 came the second tattoo, a circular motif with ‘Jagger Michael Stapp’ above the upper half. Scott describes the design as being “of Native American origin”.

Scott Stapp: All-Time Star

Hit Parader magazine found Scott worthy of inclusion in its Special Edition Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Stars in October 2005. #98 on the list that includes greats such as Mick Jagger, Robert Page and Jimi Hendrix, this is what they have to say about Scott:

He may stand at the center of a media maelstrom, but there's no way of avoiding the notion that dark, brooding former Creed vocalist Scott Stapp has emerged as one of the 21st Century's most charismatic stage performers. With his former band's albums ranking among the last decade's most commercially successful outings, Stapp has blossomed as an important cultural force in modern rock society, a fact he hopes to expand upon as he launches his solo career.

"The success of Creed was so wonderful for me," he said. "But it's the dawn of a new day and I hope that the fans accept my new music with the same degree of fervor that they enjoyed Creed's work for so many years."

MOST NOTABLE QUALITY: The talent to confound the critics by simply doing what he does best.
