While flying under the mass media radar, the Florida group Creed has managed to sell more than two million copies of its debut album and score three number one mainstream rock singles.
Despite the lack of high-profile face time and the fact that they are often pigeonholed as a Christian rock act because of their spiritual lyrics, the band has found a cozy home on radio.
"We hadn't gotten like a lot of press over TV you know. It was strictly radio," frontman Scott Stapp told MTV News recently of the band's climb. "There was nothing visual behind it. It kind of made me feel like we were the people's choice. You know, we went straight to them and then they bought our records and that's what makes it so special."
Creed continues its run of rock radio hits with the anti-suicide track "What's This Life For", which is currently the number one mainstream rock track in the country.
