Creed's Scott Stapp has unveiled plans for the establishment of the With Arms Wide Open Foundation to aid children and families, and the band will issue a limited-edition "With Arms Wide Open" single next week to raise start-up money for the organization.
The benefit single will arrive in stores on September 26 and will include the strings version of "With Arms Wide Open" that appears in the song's video; a non-strings "rock" version; and an acoustic-only version of the track.
The release of the special "With Arms Wide Open" disc will mark the official launch of the foundation, with $3 from the sale of each copy of the single going to the charitable organization, which hopes to get a total cash infusion of $200,000 from the promotion.
"I've always wanted to start an organization to help support families and children," Stapp noted in a statement heralding the launch of the foundation. "With the success of Creed, I am finally in a position to do so on a national level, and I'm excited by the prospect of being able to give back to the communities that have been so supportive of us."
Stapp has already donated $25,000 out of his own pocket to the foundation, which will seek to promote and achieve its "Help for children, hope for families" mission by raising money for current family aid agencies, as well as lobbying political and entertainment figures for the creation of new programs.
In related news, Creed will kick off a fall jaunt with Collective Soul on Friday, September 22, in Sacramento, California, with the tour currently scheduled through an October 17 show in Omaha, Nebraska.
